Facts about Guadalupe Social ServicesPosted: 10.23.09 The key ingredient to the programs at Guadalupe Social Services is the devotion to the mission of Catholic Charities, to Catholic social teaching, and to Gospel values. As the program celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2010, it will continue to serve a niche in Immokalee – farmworkers, packinghouse workers and rural poor. The program works on the belief that dignity demands that all clients be heard, whatever the need, and no client is ever turned away. Here are some offerings of Guadalupe Social Services: • Food pantry serving more than 5,000 families per year. • Crib and stroller program for needy newborns. • Holiday food basket distributions at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. • School-on-Wheels program in which women volunteers teach conversational English one on one to women in the community who are isolated and unable to attend classes in town. • Program with limited funds for prescriptions, rental and utility assistance. • Social Security services twice a month staffed by Social Security Administration personnel. • Immigration Office staffed by a certified immigration specialist to serve those clients eligible for naturalization and/or citizenship. • Back-to-school program with backpacks and school supplies for children referred by school liaisons. • Advocacy efforts on behalf of the marginalized community.
