Father George Clements: ‘You the one’

Father George Clements relates the story of Jamal, a young drug addict that he rescued from the streets of Washington, during his opening address at the Florida Catholic Charities Annual State Conference June 19. When Fr. Clements approached Jamal in the middle of a bitter cold night, the young man was about to slit his wrists, when he looked at the priest and said, “you the one.” Jamal later told the priest that as he sat on the bench contemplating suicide, God told him he would send someone. Father Clements told the Catholic Charities representatives from around the state, “that every time you reach out and look in the face of one of the many faces of God, and you reach out to help that person, that makes ‘you the one.’”
