Sister Margaret Victor Keller, 76Posted: 08.10.09
Sister Margaret Victor Keller, Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, of St. Edward Parish in Palm Beach, died Aug. 3 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine after a brief illness and after relocating to St. Augustine July 25. Sister Keller, a native of Miami, would have celebrated her 77th birthday Aug. 19. For nearly six decades, she served God, the Church, her community and children. After completing studies and receiving a bachelor’s in music education and a master’s in school administration, she obtained a certificate in catechetical ministry. She began teaching at St. Paul’s School in Jacksonville. In the Diocese of Palm Beach, she taught at St Juliana School in West Palm Beach. From 1966 to 1968, Sister Keller was mistress of postulants at the former St. Joseph Novitiate in Jensen Beach, and from 1972 to 1978, she was general counselor for her congregation. During her career, she served as principal at St. Charles School in Orlando, St Theresa School in Coral Gables and St. Juliana School in West Palm Beach. Let Us PrayAbsolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant Sister Margaret Victor Keller, from every bond of sin, that being raised in the glory of the resurrection, she may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect. We pray through Christ our Lord. “She was a strong woman,” said Father Alfredo Hernandez, St. Juliana pastor, who said that Sister Keller was an excellent administrator. “She was truly a nun’s nun.” Sister Keller’s first experience as a pastoral minister was at St. Thomas More in Boynton Beach and, since 1992, at St. Edward in Palm Beach. She relocated from St. Edward just a week before her death. Sister Keller is survived by her brother, Victor J. Keller; and her sister, Sister Margaret Jeanne Keller, who is a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine and works for the Diocese of Palm Beach as episcopal delegate of religious men and women. A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 8 at the chapel of St. Joseph Convent by Father Francis Lechiara, pastor of St. Edward, and burial followed at San Lorenzo Cemetery in St. Augustine. Locally, a fall memorial is being planned at St. Edward Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine.
