With their area teams in the NBA finals, Orlando’s Bishop Wenski and Los Angeles’ Cardinal Mahony just couldn’t help but indulge in a friendly wager on the outcome.

ORLANDO | Bishop Thomas Wenski of the Diocese of Orlando and Cardinal Roger Mahony of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have a friendly sports wager about their respective basketball teams winning the playoffs: Whoever wins the wager receives a local gift from the other. Bishop Wenski is wagering a triple pack of Florida key lime pies, Florida rock shrimp and a can of fresh air (noting the smog of Los Angeles) against Cardinal Mahony’s wager of 12 bottles of assorted California wines. Both are expecting to collect on the wager. About this wager, one thing is certain — a Catholic will win.
