SOUTHWEST RANCHES | Father Brendan Dalton, supervising principal of Archbishop Edward McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, blesses the school’s new state–of–the–art Health and Fitness center as student Rocio Pla pronounces the reading during the blessing. The 3,000 square–foot center features custom–made weight lifting equipment, a surround sound stereo system and flat screen televisions donated by McCarthy High parent Brian Calaluca, with additional support from the school’s athletic booster club. The center completes the first step of Phase II of the 1,400–student high school’s ongoing capital campaign and is adjacent to the recently–opened Student and Performing Arts Center. Phase II, the athletic expansion, will eventually include a multi–purpose stadium with bleachers for 2,500, a refurbished artificial turf field and a sports complex with locker rooms, coach’s offices, concession stand and classrooms.
