St. Thomas Aquinas — state 5A football champs!ORLANDO | Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High School capped a successful 14–1 football season with the ultimate win - a state championship. The Raiders beat Kissimmee Osceola High School 35–20 in front of more than 9,000 fans at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium Dec. 14 in the State of Florida 5A championship game. The Raiders jumped out in front in the first quarter and Osceola never caught up. On St. Thomas’ first possession of the game, Jeremiah Harden ran the ball 84 yards for a touchdown on a 3rd down play. A little more than 4 minutes later, Conor O’Neill carried Osceola’s kickoff 73 yards for St. Thomas’ second touchdown of the quarter. St. Thomas dominated the balance of the game from the air with 3 successful touchdown passes by junior quarterback Ryan Becker to Duron Carter (2) and Ronnie Kennedy. In addition to the championship award, Becker took home the game’s most valuable player trophy. This is the Raider’s fourth football championship win with previous state wins in 1992, 1997 and 1999.
